This is a subject that I’ve been learning a lot about as of late. When you’re young, even though you may not feel like it, you’re naive and sometimes that can be a good thing. But it can also hurt you in ways you don’t necessarily think.
In this day and age, you can meet someone online and start loving them. Start falling for them. I know first hand that love has no boundaries and loving someone who lives half way across the world and having never met them is very much possible. Sometimes, your heart can’t help who it loves. But do you really love them? Or do you love the idea of them? You know in your heart if you love them or not. You feel it with every fiber of your being. But if you love the idea of them it feels a little different. It will feel a lot like lust and not love.
You can build the idea of someone up so much so that the thought of them leaving (even when they were never truly a part of your life to begin with) breaks your heart and you feel like you might die without them. But then when you actually meet them, you see that they are just a human being. They have issues and flaws like everyone else and those issues and flaws might not be something you want to live with. They could disgust you. Or you could fall even more in love with them than you already were.
Everyone is human. Even your favorite celebrity crush. They have problems, too. They have something about them that you wouldn’t like. Amongst all the things you love about them, there’s something you’d probably hate. They are people, too. People with flaws. Just like that person you have built up in your head to be amazing. They could be just as amazing as you think they are. But they could also be the opposite. You never know.
So before you get heartbroken over that girl or boy that you wish you had the chance to get to know more or haven’t met yet, life/God/the universe could be saving you from something you wouldn’t want or need in the first place. Keep living. Keep loving fearlessly. Keep being you. And I promise the right people will come around. I hope this made sense to someone.
